Excuses, poor choices, obnoxious, and the ridiculous. Family emergency has been used 27 times this month. Is it time to come up with a new call off excuse?

My 11:00 Interview

So today was a busy day. I had interviews scheduled all day. At 11:00, I waiting for my next interview. By 11:05, if he shows up now, he can wait for me. I am going to the vending machine for an iced tea.

About 5 minutes later, I return to my office. My 11:00 interview is calling to reschedule. Except he is upset that I am not there, because WE HAD AN 11:00 INTERVIEW. He eventually leaves me a voice mail, where he wants me to call him back to reschedule. He said he had a family emergency and couldn't get to a cell phone.

I am not calling him back. He has shown me poor communication, poor follow up, and all around stupidity. If and when he calls me back. I am going to tell him the truth. I have two more full days of interviewing candidates, and will be able to fill the position without him. Maybe next time.

Now if he called me at 7:00 am, with the family emergency story, and advised he will call me later to reschedule, at least he is showing respect for the process, and I would give him another chance. But what it really comes down to, I truly have two more days of heavy interviews. And he had a interview scheduled. He blew it, not me.

How can you tell a brilliant applicant by the way he answers a question? Can you give an advice?

Thanks by the way for the comment you left in my blog. Cheers!
